Kenneth J. Frango
Floor Installation Expert
I retired from floor covering installation in September of 2022 after 42 years of dedicated service to the industry and my clients. When I mention this fact, people will often say, “your back and knees must be a mess”. Sometimes when saying it, they would often have a grimace on their face; and at least one made a kicking motion in a manner you might recognize, have experienced and/or identified with a typical retail carpet installation. I see it as a display of either empathy or sympathy. I’m not sure which; maybe both. I even had a Physician who’s home I measured for carpet recently, make a point of the fact that his floor covering patients had chronic knee and back issues. I told him what I tell everyone; my knees and back are in great shape, relatively speaking. A lot of thanks for Pro Knees for that.
It’s the top half of my body that’s a mess. It’s broken. From my neck to my fingertips. Bone on bone in my neck, chronic tendonitis in my elbows, rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, fingers and wrists, my rotor mast and blades are riddled with severe peripheral neuropathy.
I’m not looking for sympathy, I made my choices and I’d make the same ones again under the identical circumstances. My point is, the reason I was able to get four plus decades of extreme physicality out of my body was because I learned to work smarter, not harder. It took me twenty years to figure it out, but once I did, that became my goal.
I went about eliminating the middlemen and marketed my installation services directly to you, the floor covering consumer. I charged more than the big boxes, because my services were premium. My attention to detail was bar none.
As the Yellow Pages became extinct and the internet evolved into the primary source of finding goods and services, acquiring work was my biggest challenge. Appearing on the first page of google went from an organic undertaking to pay-per-click. The only consumers that found me buried beyond page ten were those dedicated to finding that high bar. And more often than not, that was only because they previously had such a disappointing experience that they didn’t want to deal with that again.
It seems like forever that I’ve been saying floors should simply exist, you shouldn’t really have to think about them. But when you do, the feeling you get should be one of happiness. The way I see it, I’m in the Happiness Business, I simply happen to do it through floor covering.
I made homes happier, that’s what I did. If you’re interested in learning more of the story click here. Here too.
Wood is Good, Carpet is Grand..
Pattern Carpets are unique animals that require special skill to install. They’re not all created equal and either are carpet mechanics. If pattern is the way you’d like to go, understanding the pitfalls is essential to creating a finished product that will perform trouble free and be aesthetically pleasing for many years.
Five. That’s what it takes. A carpet mechanic with five years experience in the field combined with the proper training should be able to install any tufted, synthetic patterned carpet with expertise. If they can not, then they should me considered an apprentice until they are able.

“I cannot say enough positive things to fully reflect my satisfaction with Ken – who is very aptly called “The Floor Maven.” My hardwood floor looks beautiful and I can enjoy it fully knowing that it’s installed properly (I’ve experienced the less-fun opposite). As an invaluable bonus, when I had an apparent water issue that damaged a couple of planks two years post-installation, I contacted Ken who responsively visited to advise. In a surprise twist, he flawlessly fixed the issue on the spot – not only solving the problem with the damaged planks but also bringing my attention to the root cause. Ken consistently brings his experience, precision, professionalism, and eye for aesthetics when he does a job, and he’s the kind of person you can trust and enjoy having in your home during any sized project. I have no hesitation offering an A+/5 star rating for both service and result!”

Almost 1,000 square feet of cork flooring w new baseboard installed. Furniture moved back with care.
Fine workmanship, has high standards for his work and easy person to do business with. We had other contractors here while he was working. Ease in coordinating things. We recommend this business and we’d hire again ourselves. One of the easiest smoothest experiences in home improvement ever.
